Why the site does not bring applications: 9 reasons and what to do about them
There is traffic, but there are no applications. We break down the real reasons - from a confusing first screen to a form that no one fills out - and what to fix first.
Most often, they do not ask "make a website", but "there is a website, but there is no point". People come in, look and leave. Let's analyze why this happens and in what order to treat it.
Briefly
- 8 times out of 10, the problem isn't the design, it's that it's not clear what you're offering.
- First we look at the first screen and the mobile version, and only then at everything else.
- There are no applications not because there is "little traffic", but because the traffic is not the same or the site does not give a reason to apply.
1. From the first screen, it is not clear what you are doing
The most common reason. A person enters and in 3-5 seconds should understand: what it is, for whom and what to do next.
What the error looks like: "We are a team of professionals with many years of experience who create innovative solutions."
How it should be: "Cleaning of apartments in Vinnytsia in 2 hours. Departure on the day of application".
Test yourself: Show the first screen to someone who doesn't know about your business and ask what you do. If she hesitates, the problem has been found.
2. There is no reason to turn to you
Let's say it's clear that you make websites. But a hundred other companies do it. why you
Specific things work:
- "We show the design for payment"
- "Launch in 3-5 days"
- "Don't like it - don't pay"
Not working: "quality", "individual approach", "flexible prices".
3. It's inconvenient on the phone
Most come from the phone. Typical problems:
- you have to enlarge the text with your fingers
- the buttons are too small or close together
- the form is hidden under the keyboard
- the page moves sideways
Open your site on your phone and navigate to the application. Just do it, most owners have never tried it.
4. There is no price at all
A classic dispute. The argument "the price scares away" almost always loses to reality: a person without a reference point simply goes to the one who showed the figure.
It is not necessary to name the exact amount. A range or calculator like on our prices page. In this way, you also weed out those who definitely cannot afford it - and you do not waste time on empty calls.
5. The form asks for too much
Every extra field is a lost application. If the first contact requires a name, email, phone, company name, position and "describe the task in detail" - half will close the tab.
For the first touch, two fields are enough: what is your name and where to reply. You will find out the rest in the dialogue.
6. It is not clear what will happen after pressing the button
Man does not like uncertainty. "Leave an application" - what's next? Will they call? When? Will I have to pay?
Write it directly: “We will respond during the business day in Telegram. Free, without obligation." We even endured it a separate block on the contacts page - precisely because this is most often a question before sending.
7. There is no evidence that you can be trusted
Empty promises don't work. Working:
- real jobs that open live - how our cases
- reviews with names, not "Olena, a satisfied customer"
- specific verifiable numbers
If there is no evidence at all - the site looks like a one-day business card.
8. The site loads slowly
Every extra second is a percentage of lost visitors. The most common reasons:
- photos of 3-5 MB, uploaded as is from the camera
- a dozen third-party scripts
- a heavy template that uses 10% of the features
Test yourself with PageSpeed Insights. If the mobile number is less than 50, it already affects applications.
9. The wrong audience is coming
It happens that everything is fine with the site, but there are no applications, because the wrong people come. You make premium kitchens to order, and the traffic goes to the request "cheap kitchen".
The problem here is not the site, but where the traffic is coming from. Look in the analytics for which requests come and how much time they spend.
In what order to treat it
- The first screen. The cheapest and gives the greatest effect.
- Mobile version. That's where most of your visitors are.
- Prices and proof. Removes two main objections.
- Form Reduce to a minimum.
- Speed Technical work, but noticeable.
- Traffic sources. When the site is no longer ashamed to show.
Don't try to do everything at once. Correct the first point and watch for two weeks - often this is enough to understand the direction.
When the problem cannot be fixed by editing
Sometimes the site is so outdated structurally that it is cheaper to make a new one than to patch it. Signs: No mobile version per se, can't be edited, takes more than 5 seconds to load, and the structure itself doesn't match what you're currently selling.
In this case, we start with the audit and redesign - with saving positions in the search, so as not to lose what has already been worked on.
Summary
Applications are not design magic. This is a sequence: clear → interesting → not scary → convenient to click. If a person stumbles at any step, he leaves.
