Checklist before launching a website: 18 points that are often forgotten

What we check before handing over the project to the client - from the mobile version to setting up analytics.

You can make a site beautiful and still lose applications on it - because of little things that no one checked. Here's our internal checklist that every project goes through before launch.

Content and texts

  • No fish text or placeholders anywhere, including the footer.
  • The title of the first screen answers the question "what do you do and for whom".
  • Checked spelling - separately in buttons and forms, they are usually skipped.
  • All images have alt descriptions.

Mobile version

  • No horizontal scrolling at 360-390px.
  • Buttons and links are no smaller than 44×44 px.
  • The menu closes after going through the item.
  • The text is not smaller than 16 px - otherwise iOS will zoom the page when focusing on the field.

Forms

  • The application actually arrives: verified from real mail and phone.
  • There is a message about successful sending and about an error.
  • The button is blocked at the time of sending so that there are no duplicates.
  • There is a link to the privacy policy next to the button.

Technical

  • Title and description are unique on each page.
  • There is a favicon, OG images, sitemap.xml and robots.txt.
  • Configured 301 redirects from old addresses if this is a redesign.
  • The 404 page exists and leads back to the site.
  • Analytics are installed and capture key events, not just views.
  • The domain is opened with and without www, both options are HTTPS.

The last one

Before handing over the project, we go through the site through the eyes of the client: from a phone, on a slow Internet, without prior knowledge of where everything is. This is the cheapest way to find something that cannot be seen from the inside.
